Demo Out Now for Oaks vs Orcs - Grow A Forest Kingdom and Fight Off Hordes of Orcs

Australian indie studio Chaos Theory Games has released the free public demo for Oaks vs Orcs, a roguelike strategy autobattler where you grow a living forest kingdom that fights for you. The demo is available now on Steam. Each run takes around 20 minutes, and a leaderboard tracks the best kingdoms. The full game is scheduled for launch on PC in 2027.

In Oaks vs Orcs, the last living forest is under attack from an orc army seeking the Great Tree. Players expand their kingdom across a tactical grid, place troops and defences, and extend a river from a single source. Tiles connected to the river activate bonuses, while the water’s path determines which groves awaken and how effects chain downstream.

The Oaks vs Orcs demo includes 2 playable decks, 6 unique campaigns, and the game’s invasion-level difficulty system to test your bonus stacking prowess. More playable decks, campaign challenges, and unlockable perks are available in the full game.

The demo follows a prototype released earlier this year, which drew more than 7,000 players with an average session of over an hour. Feedback from those players shaped the demo’s card pool, season pacing, and boss encounters.

“One of our playtesters hit wave 72 by spreading swamp to every tile on the board, which we didn't think was possible," said Nico King, Creative Director at Chaos Theory Games. "Our Discord community have been finding new strategies for the past few weeks, and we’re looking forward to seeing what crazy builds everyone else can find in the demo!”

Oaks vs Orcs DEMO Features:

  • Build a living forest kingdom on an expanding tactical grid.

  • Bend the river through your strongest tiles to create chains of bonuses.

  • Combine more than 50 cards into powerful, build-defining strategies.

  • Place your army, then watch it auto-battle massive orc hordes.

  • Fight through multiple campaigns, a climactic boss encounter, and an endless mode with leaderboards.

  • Experiment with new combinations and break the game in a different way every run.

The Oaks vs Orcs demo is available on Steam now. The full game is scheduled to release for PC in 2027, and players can wishlist and follow the game to be notified at launch.
