The Shelbys Storm VR: ‘Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom’ Hits Meta Quest 2 and PICO 4
Immersive entertainment studio, Maze Theory, can confirm their new VR gangster drama, Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom, will launch on both Meta Quest 2 and PICO 4 where available across the globe later today.
Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom represents the legendary TV series’ first foray into the world of Virtual Reality, and will immerse players in a vivid 1920s criminal underworld. As they explore detailed environments, come face-to-face with intriguing characters, and fight their way through fast-paced shootouts, players will uncover a plot that could change the country forever.
Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom adds new characters and rivals to the world of Peaky Blinders for the first time outside of the television series itself. Players will encounter the Winter’s Children - a politically-motivated gang who challenge every move the Peaky Blinders make - and The Tong - a brotherhood from London’s Chinese community who are as fiercely protective of Limehouse as the Shelbys are Small Heath.
Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom features the vocal talents of both Tommy Shelby himself, aka Cillian Murphy, and his brother Arthur, played by Paul Anderson. Bringing Cillian and Paul on board cements The King’s Ransom’s authenticity as an action-adventure in its own right within the Peaky Blinders universe.
“We’ve been blown away by the media reaction to Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom after recently having the pleasure of showcasing it at Peaky Blinders: The Rise in London,” said Tim Jones, Game Director at Maze Theory. “Now it’s time for everyone else to step into the Shelbys’ world. Whether you’re a Peaky Blinders fan or taking your first steps into this iconic world, Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom is a thrilling and immersive experience for everyone.”
Inspired by the BAFTA-winning TV drama, Peaky Blinders, Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom is an original story written in collaboration with Peaky Blinders’ producer and brand owner Caryn Mandabach Productions, and with series creator and writer Steven Knight. The game is created in partnership with Banijay Brands, the commercial arm of content powerhouse Banijay.
“I am always excited by the prospect of ‘Peaky Blinders’ entering new territory,” offers Steven Knight, Creator and Writer of Peaky Blinders. “People who love the show will love the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world in such a total way.”
