Eighteen years ago, we set out with a simple idea: games should be yours to keep, and they should last forever. Now, as GOG turns 18, we’re hosting our very first Showcase to celebrate that journey-sharing new milestones, platform updates, and classics restored side by side with developers, modders, and our community.
Keeping Legends Flying: Wing Commander: Prophecy Restoration led by GOG, EA Fleet Returns
EA has been putting real care into updating the classic Wing Commander games for modern PCs, but when we caught up at GDC 2026, Wing Commander: Prophecy had hit a few tough technical roadblocks. Our engineers offered a simple suggestion: “Why don’t you send over a few videos and let us take a look?”
A few weeks later, we got back to them: “I think we can make this work.”
While EA updated the earlier titles, our preservation team focused on Prophecy, working closely with EA Senior Producer Jim Vessella and the Wing Commander modding community. By combining veteran fan mods with our own tools, we enabled the display of EA’s digitized master FMVs and added native controller support so the game feels natural on today’s hardware. Today, Wing Commander™ Prophecy: 30th Anniversary Edition officially joins the GOG Preservation Program.
Wing Commander Prophecy is one of seven Anniversary Editions launching today on GOG, which also includes the return of Road Rash celebrating its 30th Anniversary on PC.
