Supporting Women in the Games Industry, Women Create Games Forum committed to Creating a New Supportive Outlet for Talent
The inaugural Women Create Games Forum, scheduled for September 13 2024, aims to build a supportive community for women in the gaming industry, encouraging collaboration, mentorship, and mutual support among attendees. This day-long educational event, organized by Event Horizon School and Women in Games Italia, is made possible through the dedicated support of prominent sponsors who each champion diversity and equality in global gaming: Xbox, Predator Gaming (Acer), Skillsearch, and partners Swipe Right, Women in Games, and devcom.
Arianna Timeto, Marketing Manager for Acer Italy & Greece offers, "Acer Predator is proud to support Women Create Games, with the goal of encouraging women's participation in the video game development field, which is still quite low, in Italy and beyond. Acer is a staunch supporter of women in gaming and believes that opportunities like this, which involve various role models, can help inspire new generations of women to pursue a career as game developers."
The Women Create Games Forum is more than just a series of talks and workshops; it's a gathering of like-minded individuals and companies committed to fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment within the gaming industry. The forum will provide a platform for women to share their experiences, offer guidance, and build lasting connections that can propel their careers forward.
Robin Hartmann, Senior PR & Partnership Manager at devcom states, "At devcom, we continuously seek new allies and partner events that align with our mission of inclusivity and support. Women Create Games embodies these values and is spearheaded by esteemed industry professionals and trusted colleagues. We eagerly anticipate their first event and look forward to a lasting partnership."
The event will feature interactive Q&A sessions, networking events, and opportunities for attendees to engage with speakers and industry leaders. These interactions are designed to create a strong network of support, enabling women to learn from each other’s experiences and foster mentorship relationships that can last beyond the event.
Emily Scahill, Head of Client Success at Skillsearch adds, "Skillsearch is proud to sponsor the First Women Create Games Forum. During this unsettling time in games, it's more important than ever to nurture the next generation of talent, supporting them in learning from the incredible trailblazing women that will be speaking at this event. We stand alongside Women in Games Italia and Event Horizon School for the advancement of women in our industry."
According to Skillsearch’s recent gender report, “Games Industry Guide to: Gender Pay Gap 2024”, only 26% of the games industry's workforce are women, and 3% are non-binary. Data also revealed a gender pay gap of 22%. This means that on average, men in the industry are earning just over £11k more each year than women, or that women in games will stop getting paid on 12th October this year.
