Existing before the first ice age millions of years ago, the Vulkin are an ancient race of parasitic creatures once thought to be extinct but were actually just dormant deep within a planet's permafrost.
Recent mercury mining activities have awakened them and they've begun to feed on the substance that powers Protolithin technology. And that's how they returned to the spotlight!
They are able to infuse themselves into the skin and bodies of a Protolith. Once attached, they take full control, turning the host into a puppet meant to produce more Vulkin. In some rare cases, the Vulkin take on the host's memories and use them to trick other unsuspecting victims!
