One For The Collection! Rarity Documentary Takes Home The Gold Telly Award Just In Time for Limited Physical Release

An Anti Hero Production and Mega Cat Studios have come together for a limited edition release of the Silicon Beach Film Festival award-winning documentary - Rarity: Retro Video Game Collecting In The Modern Era! Directed by Edward Payson, the documentary explores the motivations and personalities behind some of the world's most expensive Retro game collections. What started as a small local documentary featuring four interviews grew into an international project whose cast range from the casual to world-famous collectors and prominent YouTubers such as John Hancock, Aaron Stapish, Eric Naierman, Bobby Baqai, and John Riggs.

Last month, Rarity was nominated for and received the Golden Telly Award in the non-broadcast category. Receiving over 12,000 entries from all 50 states and five continents, Telly Award winners represent work from some of the most respected advertising agencies, television stations, production companies, and publishers worldwide. In addition to this latest award, An Anti-Hero Productions has already begun filming the Rarity Sequel. Edward Payson and producer Andrew Lupan have also recently finished working on the soon-to-be-released BITS, a feature-length horror film starring Dee Wallace about a Haunted Sega Genesis game due out in 2022.

“It is very rare for someone to be able to make their passion part of their job. For the first time in my career, I was able to intertwine my personal love of Retro video game collecting and video game culture. I’m ecstatic that our passion for this project translates to other collectors and critics alike. Winning the prestigious Gold Telly Award has been on my bucket list since I started filmmaking in 2007.”, said Director Edward Payson “Previously winning Copper and Silver, the collector in me needed the Gold to complete the set. That is very fulfilling.”

“Rarity gives an honest look into the retro collecting hobby - the good, the bad, and the expensive! As the retro renaissance rages on, documentaries like these help fan the flames of nostalgia.”, said Marketing Director at Mega Cat Studios, Mina Figueroa “ We are pleased to be a part of bringing a new collectible to shelves everywhere”

The documentary film was released on streaming services last October 2021 and is available on Amazon Prime, Tubi, and Plex. Fans can enter to win a signed copy of the movie by submitting photos of their retro collections and entering Mega Cat Studios' newest competition. A Discord screening along with a Q&A with Edward Payson and a special cast member guest on the Mega Cat Studios Discord server taking place later this month. Fans looking to purchase a physical copy can get the limited collector’s edition and enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at the filming, commemorative art, poster, an NES-styled instruction manual, and a Nintendo NES retail box, right from Mega Cat Studios website but they’ll need to hurry because supply is extremely limited!
