Myanmar’s Yangon Galacticos Crowned Champions of the 2025 PUBG MOBILE World Cup

The 2025 PUBG MOBILE World Cup (PMWC) Grand Final, as part of the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, concluded as Yangon Galacticos made history by being the second ever team to be crowned PMWC Champions. Excitement for this second entry of the PMWC was demonstrated by the peak viewership more than doubling last year’s figures, reaching over 1.3M viewers over the weekend, becoming the most-viewed Battle Royale and first-person shooter at the 2025 Esports World Cup.

This was a monumental milestone for Yangon Galacticos, marking their first win in a major global PUBG MOBILE Esports tournament to date, and continuing their streak of winning all four official PUBG MOBILE Esports tournaments they have participated in this year. With another record to their name, the team earned the 2025 PMWC title and the lion’s share of the $3,000,000 USD prize pool.

The 2025 PMWC exploded into action on July 25th with the high-stakes Group Stage, where 24 formidable teams were thrust into the battlegrounds, split into three groups of eight. Their ultimate prize: a coveted spot in the Grand Finals. The elite eight teams from the Group Stage earned direct passage to the pinnacle of competition, while the remaining 16, were plunged into the Survival Stage, a final effort to secure a spot in the finale. The top eight teams from the Survival Stage then earned their way into the Grand Finals, rejoining the original eight qualifiers.

Following a nail-biting Survival Stage tensions were running high heading into the first day of the Grand Finals. Yangon Galacticos sat comfortably at the leaderboard with the day nearing its end, with a modest 14-point lead over the trailing DRX. Yangon Galacticos continued this momentum by the end of day two, though with a much narrower 1-point lead over Alpha Gaming, both teams well-ahead of the competition. With the end of the second day, and in keeping with the updated SMASH ruleset, the Match Point was set at 128 points, 10 points above the leading team’s score.

The final day of Grand Finals and of the 2025 PMWC started with the fate of the title still uncertain. In the mid-table, things were just as tumultuous, with the gap between Alter Ego Ares in 4th place and 4Thrives in 8th a difference of just 10 points. Coming out firing on all cylinders, Nongshim RedForce took the first Chicken Dinner, with an additional 11 elimination points, jumping from 11th place to 4th. As the day continued, Yangon Galacticos became the first team to reach the Match Point threshold in Match 14, meaning any subsequent victory would see them taking the 2025 PMWC title. Alpha Gaming joined the SMASH stage in the following match, and then Weibo Gaming by Match 17.

It was all to play for as the final match began. Early into the game, Alpha Gaming suffered a devastating blow from Yangon Galacticos, losing their key player DOK. Shortly after, caught in the middle of IDA Esports and Weibo Gaming, another two players were taken from Alpha Gaming. As the game continued, Alpha Gaming would eventually be knocked out, followed quickly by Weibo Gaming and Yangon Galacticos, at the hands of Horaa Esports and Nongshim RedForce respectively. Though the game continued on to decide final placements, Yangon Galacticos had cemented their place as the winner of the 2025 PMWC, thanks to their strong lead heading into the final match.

Commenting on their team’s hard-fought victory, Yangon Galacticos’ Romeo said, "Of course we were nervous, we were top of the leaderboard. We made some mistakes the previous rounds, but we kept playing our own game, and we knew that we could do it. We had the confidence to make it happen.”

As the winners of the tournament, Yangon Galacticos chose to crush the keys of Alpha Gaming, Alter Ego Ares, and Weibo Gaming. Commenting on this, Yangon Galacticos’ SAYCLOUD said, “APG is a good team, Alter we respect as another top-level team, and everyone knows Weibo Gaming, they are top of the league every time.” This symbolic moment demonstrates the might and reputation of these excellent teams, and shows the sportsmanship of Yangon Galacticos to recognise these powerhouses in the competition.

The 2025 PMWC was the latest in the team’s recent stream of success, having taken home the top spot at every official PUBG MOBILE Esports tournament they have participated in this year, including the 2025 PUBG MOBILE Challengers League (PMCL) in Spring and Summer, the 2025 PUBG MOBILE Regional Clash - Rondo Cup and now the 2025 PMWC, stunning fans in this dominating tournament run.

While Yangon Galacticos no doubt headed home proud of their performance, they weren’t the only ones. Though there can only be one 2025 PMWC Champion, the winner of the prestigious SONY MVP award was also revealed as Alpha Gaming’s DOK, with 31 eliminations, 33 knockouts, and 7237 damage dealt. This is DOK’s second global PUBG MOBILE Esports tournament MVP this year, having also secured the title during the 2025 PUBG MOBILE Global Open (PMGO) in April.

While teams take time to recuperate and fans to revisit some of the top moments in PUBG MOBILE Esports this year, the end-of-year 2025 PUBG MOBILE Global Championship (PMGC) is in sight, providing teams with another world stage to compete. Fans can expect this final tournament of the PUBG MOBILE Esports calendar to bring even higher stakes and plenty more incredible moments to remember.
