Targem Games is excited to announce The Way of the Tray, a waiter simulator game that plays tribute to Japanese culture. Master the skill of serving dishes, earn the trust of yokai patrons and find your way home!

Spirited Away To Hold A Tray
The Way of the Tray is inspired by the beautiful presentation of food and culture of “omotenashi” in Japanese cuisine. Players take on the role of a waiter working at a mythical restaurant. As the waiter you must entertain various yokai such as demons, kappa and tsuchigumo and bring them their desire dishes of onigiri, sushi, ramen and more.

Don’t let your mouth water for too long though, working at this restaurant will be tough work. As the waiter, you’ll be entrusted with unreasonable tasks such as the stacking of various trays of food and drink. Make a mistake and the Chief will be coming for your head! Manage your time well and serve your guests before they leave angrily!

About The Way of the Tray
As the protagonist, you’ve accidentally fallen into a fantastical world based on Japanese folklore. To return to your original world you must work as a waiter in a restaurant, dealing with yokai customers quickly and courteously so as not to keep them waiting too long. Perform well and earn enough money to renovate the restaurant to improve its aesthetics and the quality of your service.

It’s All About Balance
Core to the game is this quirky balancing game. Players must use the tray to catch Japanese dishes and drinks falling from the screen and stack them without dropping them. Being able to move lots of food at once is a hallmark of an efficient waiter! Make a mistake and you will lose your tip so make sure you hone your skills, young waiter.

A Note From The Developer
We chose a Japanese-style setting because of Japan’s rich food culture which we thought would be the perfect setting for a restaurant simulator. Our team is fascinated by Japanese food, with a particular fondness for rich and flavorful ramen! We hope that by playing this game, players from around the world will be able to learn about Japanese culture. This includes the importance of plating, where appearance is often as important as taste, and also the hospitable spirit of “omotenashi” from which the food experience is built upon.
