Details of the very first GMF High Score Competition have been announced by the Game Music Foundation. As an integral part of the Game Music Festival, which will be streamed online for free, this competition aims to support the development of talented artists who want to pursue a career in video game music. The submitted pieces of music will be judged by a jury of world-class composers.

Winners shall receive financial prizes totaling 8,000 USD and a contract for scoring the Opera GX gaming browser, the partner of this year’s competition. Detailed rules of GMF High Score Competition are available onhttps://gmfest.com/competition. Participants can enter the contest by filling the official submission form no later than on the 30th of September.

Opera GX is a web browser for avid fans of gaming. Today its creators revealed that Opera GX will be the very first browser to feature dynamic background music that responds to the user. Participants in the GMF High Score Competition 2020 will compose a brief musical piece illustrating the unique user experience related to browsing the web with Opera GX. Awards will include 3,000 USD for first place, 2,000 USD for second, and 1000 USD for third, as well as the benefit of continuing their cooperation with Opera GX. This provides a one-of-a-kind opportunity to score an internet browser dedicated to gamers.
In parallel to the main competition, fans will themselves be able to vote for a soundtrack which will get the audience award of 2,000 USD. Furthermore, names of the winners will be announced during the official Game Music Festival gala in October (also streamed online), as well as in media channels of both GMF and Opera GX. Audio specialists who have already worked with Opera GX say that it is an amazing experience to score such a project, and also a great chance to experiment creatively. The jury will be led by Krzysztof Binczak, member of the Game Music Foundation, and include famous experts from the game music industry: Yasunori Mitsuda, Darren Korb, Gareth Coker, Austin Wintory, Paul Anthony Romero, Borislav Slavov, Mikolaj Stroinski, Arkadiusz Reikowski, Peter McConnell, Lena Raine and Kow Otani.
