FlatOut 4: Total Insanity VR Crashes Its Way Out of Early Access Today
Flat2VR Studios is excited to announce that FlatOut 4: Total Insanity VR has officially exited Steam Early Access and is available now in version 1.0 for $29.99 USD. Developed by Mutar through the Flat2VR Spark initiative and published by Impact Inked, the crash-heavy arcade racer celebrates its full release with a massive update featuring overhauled multiplayer, new vehicles, expanded hardware support, optional FlatOut 2 physics and AI, and numerous improvements to the VR experience.
Since tearing onto SteamVR in May as the first official release under Flat2VR Spark, FlatOut 4 VR has continued to evolve through direct community feedback and an ongoing series of improvements. Players have been trading paint, launching drivers through windshields, and turning demolition arenas into scrap heaps while working alongside the development team to improve everything from wheel compatibility and motion controls to performance and multiplayer functionality.
Now, with version 1.0 here, that collaboration is delivering some of the game's most significant improvements yet.

Multiplayer Gets a Major Overhaul
One of the biggest changes arriving with version 1.0 is a completely overhauled multiplayer experience, addressing community feedback with a redesigned lobby system that makes finding, joining, and enjoying online races easier than ever.
Players can now join active multiplayer sessions, spectate races already in progress, and even climb into the passenger seat of another player's vehicle to experience the action from inside the car. AI-controlled competitors can fill empty grid positions, keeping races competitive even when fewer human drivers are available. Automatic host migration also keeps sessions running when a host disconnects, transferring control to another player without bringing the race to an abrupt halt.
These improvements make it easier to get into the action, stay connected, and enjoy the mayhem with friends, whether players are fighting for first place or watching someone's carefully planned overtake end in a shower of sparks.

More Ways to Race, Wreck, and Fly Through the Windshield
Version 1.0 also introduces several exciting additions to the driving experience, including optional FlatOut 2 physics and AI settings, alongside improvements to the game's existing AI. Players can experiment with different handling and opponent behaviors as they tear through the competition. New cars and a motorcycle bring additional variety to the garage, while a map from FlatOut 2 makes its way into the VR release.
For those who find themselves on the receiving end of a particularly brutal collision, the update also introduces first-person windshield ejections, allowing players to experience the infamous FlatOut driver launches from an entirely new perspective. When a hard impact sends the driver flying out of the vehicle, players can now experience the resulting flight directly through their character's eyes.
It's a fitting addition to a game where even the most spectacular crashes are part of the fun.

More Ways to Feel the Impact
The version 1.0 update introduces bHaptics integration and motion rig support, further expanding the ways players can physically experience FlatOut's full-contact racing. Combined with continued improvements to steering wheel compatibility, these additions give players even more ways to feel every collision, correction, and last-second recovery.
The game's VR presentation has also received substantial attention. Improved rearview mirrors and a redesigned user interface make the experience more natural from behind the wheel, with updated menus and laser-pointer interactions built around VR.
A significant round of performance improvements, wheel compatibility fixes, and general bug fixes rounds out the release, delivering a more refined experience across the board.
Key version 1.0 improvements include:
Overhauled Multiplayer: Redesigned lobbies, joining active sessions, spectator functionality, passenger ride-alongs, AI-filled grids, and automatic host migration.
Expanded Driving Options: Optional FlatOut 2 physics and AI settings, along with improved opponent AI.
New Vehicles and Map: Additional cars and a motorcycle join the lineup, alongside a map brought over from FlatOut 2.
First-Person Ejections: Experience being launched through the windshield after a hard impact from the driver's perspective.
Expanded Hardware Support: bHaptics integration, motion rig support, and additional steering wheel compatibility.
Improved VR Presentation: Updated interface and menu interactions, improved mirrors, performance optimizations, and extensive bug fixes.

Built With the Community, Driven by Feedback
The road to version 1.0 has been shaped by the players themselves. Just one week after the game's Early Access debut, the development team released a major update that expanded wheel compatibility from a handful of configurations to hundreds of unique setups, thanks in large part to community testing, diagnostic reports, and direct collaboration through Discord.
That early momentum continued with custom music support, multiplayer voice chat, improved motion controller steering, a reworked input system, a save editor, and ongoing performance improvements.
The result is a considerably more refined FlatOut 4 VR experience, reflecting months of work from Mutar, Flat2VR Studios, and the community that helped drive development forward.
And there's still more ahead. The team continues to explore additional features and content for future updates, with more details to be shared as development progresses.
