Deep Fringe Launches in Early Access Today: Relive the Thrill of Nostalgic Classic Tactical RPGs

Bosoneon Studio and Thousand Generation are excited to announce that Deep Fringe, a hand-crafted retro turn-based tactical game set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, is now officially available in Early Access on Steam with 10% launch discount.

Players can now dive even deeper into the command lines and lead squads of mechs through brutal, high-stakes battles where every move counts. Outsmart grotesque enemies, exploit environmental hazards, and adapt to ever-changing battlefield conditions to survive.

At the heart of Deep Fringe is a society clinging to advanced technology, yet stripped of its past-a world where history has been lost, but the machines remain. It’s a wasteland fractured by war and cultural division. Its characters and narrative are steeped in the atmosphere of classic science fiction, reimagined through a tactical lens.


“Driven by our love for tactical strategy games, we came together to create Deep Fringe from the ground up,” said Li Linge, Producer at Bosoneon Studio. “Since May 2023, our small team has been building every pixel, art, and unit by hand, crafting a dense, dangerous world with fast-paced tactical gameplay and retro-inspired visuals. Launching in Early Access today, we’re excited to share this world with players and get their feedback as we continue to grow and refine the experience.”

What’s Next in Early Access?

During Early Access, our focus is to first stabilize the core experience, then expand content and systems based on real player feedback. The roadmap below reflects our current plan and may be adjusted as development progresses.

Phase 1 | First Month After Early Access

  • Address the majority of known bugs and stability issues

  • Improve and complete features across existing stages

  • Add new side missions for selected characters

  • Make initial balance and gameplay adjustments based on player feedback

Phase 2 | Spring to Early Summer

  • Expand the main storyline beyond Chapter 7

  • Introduce 1-2 complete main story endings

  • Further refine combat flow, pacing, and overall system readability

Phase 3 | Summer to Early Autumn

  • Expand the scenario editor to reach full feature parity with the mechanics supported in the final game

  • Make all endings of the Ember Campaign available

  • Implement full difficulty mode options and an achievement system

  • Apply targeted difficulty tuning to specific experiences based on Early Access feedback

  • Continue iterative improvements to visual presentation, UI usability, and icon refinement

Throughout Early Access, we will maintain a consistent update and patch cadence, using player feedback to guide priorities and adjustments. Our goal is to ensure that as the game grows, it does so on a stable and well-supported foundation.
