Command the Allied Forces on D-Day with a Pencil and a Map in Battleplan
Battleplan is the first wargame that lets players step into the shoes of the Allied commander during the World War II D-Day campaign and issue orders by literally drawing their strategy on an authentic map of Northern France. Slitherine, the leading publisher of strategy titles, together with developer Foolish Mortals Games, has showcased the game’s opening mission, revealing the current state of development.
Move divisions, direct artillery barrages, and launch assaults against stubborn German defenses - not with menus, hex counters, or mouse clicks, but by sketching the plan of attack on the map, just as real commanders did in their wartime command bunkers.
This revolutionary concept delivers an unprecedented level of immersion and accessibility. Battleplan allows anyone, from seasoned wargamers to newcomers, to feel the responsibility and tension of high-level command: shifting entire divisions across the battlefield, coordinating assaults, and deciding the fate of the war with the stroke of a pencil. The liberation of Europe begins with the player’s orders.
Slitherine premiered Battleplan on its official Twitch channel, showing the game in action with a full playthrough of the opening mission. Viewers saw firsthand how planning, precision, and quick adaptation can turn the tide of battle.
“Battleplan is more than a wargame - it’s a new way to experience strategy. The game really puts you in the seat of an army general,” said Marco Alessandro Minoli, Publishing Director at Slitherine. “We want players to feel what it means to command an army and hold the future of the Western Front in their hands. One decision can change history.”
In Battleplan, the war is won before the first shot is fired. Each mission begins with an intelligence briefing and places the most important tool in the player’s hands: the map. Commanders draw their strategy directly on it - plotting troop movements, artillery fire, and wide offensives across realistic terrain and supply lines.
When the battle starts, plans must adapt. Players issue real-time orders, seize high ground, merge or split divisions, and call in air support - reconnaissance to expose hidden positions, fighter-bombers to break armor, or carpet bombing to shatter fortifications. Day and night cycles constantly shift visibility and tactics.
Progress carries across the campaign. Divisions gain veterancy, officers unlock abilities, and losses must be replenished. Requisition points allow players to recruit historic divisions or build custom formations as their army evolves into a hardened fighting force.
The campaign spans 11 historical missions across the Western Front - from Cherbourg and Caen to the Bulge and the final push into Germany. Massive, accurate maps include real archival photographs placed where they were taken, immersing players in history.
Battleplan delivers a new kind of wargame - one where players don’t just play a general, they think like one. More details and release information will be revealed soon. Players can wishlist the game on Steam to stay updated.
