A playable 1920s memory awaits in ARTE’s ‘The Amusement’ - launching April 16

ARTE’s latest project, The Amusement, takes players on an introspective journey through a derelict, post-WWI amusement park, and comes to SteamVR and Meta Quest on April 16.

Playing as protagonist Samantha Burkhart, The Amusement sees you restore the abandoned park’s rides in order to reveal playable memories from her childhood.

The Amusement’s clever use of redirected walking technology enables 1:1 exploration of a large-scale world, even within limited real-world space, letting players physically walk through the park itself - and removing the disconnection many gamers feel in VR.

Key details:

  • The Amusement is set in post-WWI Europe, inspired by the original Luna Parks.

  • The game’s protagonist, Samantha Burkhart, must face her tragic past.

  • Explore sprawling mazes, visit a virtual Atlantis, and restore the park's rides.

  • Uncover the truth through 1920s cardboard animations and interactive shadow plays.
