"The kind of beauty that makes you uneasy", says The Occultist dev
In the second developer diary for The Occultist, titled Godstone: A Place That Does Not Forget, developers from DALOAR shed new light on the island that shapes the game’s unsettling atmosphere and story. The second developer diary arrives as The Occultist is also featured in Steam Next Fest, where a playable demo is available for a limited time.
Godstone was envisioned as a utopia, a place for people seeking a new beginning. Over time, it transformed into a nightmare. As players step into the role of Alan Rebels, they do not encounter a living community, but the echoes of one. Godstone holds on to the final moments of its inhabitants, preserving their fear, their despair, and their unresolved past as if time itself had frozen.
The video explores how Godstone is experienced not just as a location, but as a presence. A place that remembers. A place where beauty and unease coexist, and where the past refuses to stay buried.
